Baby Photos: What Milestones Are There to Make in Your Baby's First Year?

It goes without saying that life goes by in the blink of an eye. One minute you're gnawing on their toes and the next you're holding back their tears as you're dropping them off on their first day of school.

If your baby's first year can't miss the moments that should be captured, saved, printed, stored, shared and cherished!

I've been a photographer for 13 years and here are my personal tips for capturing the exciting first year!

Motherhood: The Journey Begins!

I am going to suggest a maternity photoshoot here because this is where the journey begins. Hear a heartbeat, move, kick and see them for the first time during your first ultrasound (sonogram) appointment.

Some are not comfortable having their pictures taken during their pregnancy but trust the photographer. They'll make you feel good and look great! You'll look great! After all, you're glowing!

Take pictures when you feel most comfortable, most take their pictures around 32 weeks or 7 months.

Newborn: So sleepy and tiny!

The best time to take a newborn photo would be before 2 weeks. In this state they are so down and sleepy! You can take pictures of newborns at 4 weeks but they are more awake when posing and they are also a bit bigger.

Before the 2-week mark, since they are sleeping a lot, you can position them in various poses without disturbing their sleep too much. They can be on their stomachs, backs, sides and they can be placed in anything from baskets, toy chests and little wagons!

At this stage they may be a bit crusty (wear gloves to protect your face), maybe a bit jaundiced and have some pimples. Don't worry! The photographer should correct these errors.

Newborn pictures should remember this little stage that goes by so fast!

This is probably where you'll see the most change in the first year.

They've grown a lot since the newborn pictures. They smile often, maybe have a little hair, and they probably still look like you. But, they do not do much more than lying on their back and lying on their stomach for a few seconds. The balance of the head should also be with full force!

The pictures from this time show a big difference between the physical changes of your baby. You will be holding your baby a lot at this stage, as he can't get up on his own yet. They'll lay on their back and head up to take some pictures!

6 or 7 Months: Sit Up Smiling!

This is my favorite forum! At this point, they communicate and smile a little more. They sit, they grab things, they bite things, and the cutest smile!

I love taking pictures at 6-7 months when the baby is in a big bed or outside with a shiny blanket. They sit well, but sometimes that head is too big and they timber. Very beautiful!

At this point, tummy time is no longer torture for them, so they can last a while longer. Wow! And don't forget to snap some pictures of them lying on their backs nibbling their toes.

Enjoy the cuteness overload in this step.

1 year: Standing, moving and smashing cake!

Ware here! That first year flew by! This is a movement stage where they have developed a way to get from point A to point B. crawling, scooting, rolling or walking.

I hope this helps you when planning photos for your baby's first year!
